First Things First
They asked Jesus what work can we do to work the work of God? Jesus said this is the work of God that ye believe on him whom he has sent. Is it God that is doing the work in people before they can believe or is it a choice that one believes and thus results in the work of God? Is the work of God a combination of the Spirit drawing men unto himself and the one that is being drawn is following this lead?
If men can not believe unless God initializes or acts upon the person are we to think that the reason men do not believe is to point back to God for the reason? Surely, this can not be the case since it is the Lord’s will that men be saved and follow him. He can not be partial as the word declares.
Getting back to the question, the inquiry was what work can THEY do? There is a work that we can do, it is to believe. Allowing ourselves to yield to the words of truth that the Spirit speaks in the scripture and being guided by HIM to bring home to one’s heart is its substance.
Believe, it is the first work that we can do.
